About Us
Gillette Design Studio concept emerged as an idea in the summer of 2018 as a result of a daunting task in renovating a rental home that was in much needed repairs. We familiarized ourselves with the documentation necessary to obtain the appropriate permits from the city. On hindsight, going through the maze of the permit process, was easier than spending a fortune in hiring someone to prepare and draw our construction drawings. We decided to prepare our own construction drawings. Well, it worked out. The plans were approved and we were able to get the renovation permitted. Hence, our concept was born. To provide affordable drafting services while sharing useful information.
Having knowledge of methods of construction and drafting experience gave me the incentive to submit our own construction drawings for the renovation project. In my senior year of High School, many moons ago, I chose a drafting class as an elective course. Now, this was way before computer aided computer software. It was old school drafting. We learned the basic drafting techniques and it was a fun class. In retrospect, I enjoyed drawing and unbeknownst to me, it would open opportunities in architectural drafting. Soon after High School, I joined a small architectural firm on a part-time basis, learning from architects and drafters alike. I didn't imagine that 10 years of "old school" architectural drafting would become beneficial one day.
Gillette Design Studio provides affordable architectural drafting and measurement services to homeowners, contractors, architects, engineers, realtors and interior designers. Some of our services include On Site Measurements, As-Built Floor Plans, Construction Drawings for residential remodeling projects and Drafting Services for residential work permits. In addition to our services, we are planning to share practical information about the permit process, remodeling, choosing and scheduling the trades for a project and other related architectural topics via YouTube, Blogs and Facebook.
